Around ten years ago, as the Clayton Hotel in central Cambridge was still being built, we were approached to supply a large rustic wooden sideboard for the planned reception area. It was a great project — finding the right piece for a high traffic commercial space that needed to look the part for years to come.
On a recent visit to Cambridge it was genuinely pleasing to see it still very much in use, looking as good as the day we delivered it. That’s the thing about well made vintage furniture — it doesn’t date and it doesn’t give up. A modern flat-pack piece in the same setting wouldn’t have lasted five years.
