Antique Sculptors Workbench owned by John Mills

A real opportunity for someone to not only own a beautifully original and highly usable piece, but a piece of history too. Owned by renowned sculptor, the late John Mills, this desk resided in his studio where he would sit over decades creating his beautiful pieces.
We have spent some lovely time at the family home with his daughter Angela who has told us of many memories and stories of him working at this desk on numerous projects, from sittings with Brian May from Queen, to creating highly detailed heads often from memory alone.
So with this in mind we knew we had to do our very best to retain all that beautiful patina whilst making it ready for its new home. We have thoroughly and very gently cleaned throughout, finishing with a slight sheen to the varnish to bring out the character of the wood and seal in all that wonderful patina and character.
The desk sits on an oak frame and comes in two parts for easy access. There is a naturally shaped piece of wood that serves as a foot rest to the base, it opens on both sides with two large storage compartments and slopes to the front with a flat back.
A very special man and very special piece too. We have and will have some more pieces from the family collection ready soon.
