We get to go to some pretty special places on our travels and this was another one of those occasions, where we were invited to visit the house of renowned sculptor, the late John Mills. As you can imagine, there were beautiful sculptures everywhere and this Oak Architects Plan Chest was owned by Mr. Mills and I am told up until now, full of his artwork and was very much part of his studio and family owned since it was made in 1944.
So..onto the plan chest!
Made from oak with panelled sides, the plan chest has a wonderful patina from many years of use and is rich in character, something we are always very keen to preserve. Having spent its life in a studio, it has the kind of patina that cannot be replicated and gives so much character to the piece.
The drawers are dovetail jointed and all run smoothly, complete with the original handles stamped with the George Royal Emblem of the Crown, as is the plan chest, marked with the production date of 1944.
Very solid and well made, comprising of two parts for easy access. An opportunity to own a superbly original architects plan chest with a lovely back story and history.
Dimensions: 123cm length x 90cm depth x 92cm height
